Pitbulls For a Purpose

One of our foster homes does more than just advocate for the bully breeds--she raises awareness for Cystic Fibrosis as well. She has decided to combine her two causes and create Walkin' For Raven ~ Pit Bulls For A Purpose.  This is a walkathon planned for the spring of 2008 {date to be announced} with dogs being sponsored for their walk and proceeds going to the Canadian and American Cystic Fibrosis foundations! So far there are pending walks in Vancouver, Ottawa, Toronto, and London, Washington, Florida, and a few more pending in other provinces and states! If you would like to find out more information about how you and your pitbull can help out please check out her site or email walkinforraven@gmail.com.

Fundraiser for Ella!

Ella has had a bit of a rough go of it as of late.  First she came in as a stray to the Prince George SPCA, where she was considered unadoptable due to being a senior.  Fortunately the staff fell in love with her, so much so that the Manager drove her down to the Lower Mainland!  She quickly had the entire Bully Buddies crew swooning over her, and was doing great until one day she got sick and had a seizure.  They found that Ella has a Grade 3 heart murmur and heart that is twice the size it should be.  She is now on monthly heart medications .  The vets then found a softball sized tumour on her adrenal gland.  On Thursday May 8th she will be heading into the specialists at Can-West vet clinic, for further diagnosis, and to look at surgery possibilities for the tumour.

To date her vet bills have totaled $845.38   The Can-West bills are expected to total at least  $300, with surgery costs to follow.

Ella is an amazing dog.  When she gets through all of this we are hoping to get her  registered as a Therapy Dog because she has a wonderful, gentle temperament. People are just drawn to her where-ever she goes.  She has become our official PR dog at local events, and recently won-over the crowd at the SPCA Open House.

We are holding a raffle fundraiser for Miss Ella, in order to help cover all of her health needs.  Tickets are 1 ticket for $2 or 3 tickets for $5!
Two amazing baskets are available- one for humans, the other for your beloved canines.  See attached poster for pictures of these great prizes.
Tickets can be bought online through Paypal (bullybuddies@gmail.com), or via cash, cheque or credit card.
Draw will take place May 31, 2008.

Thank-you for supporting Ella and Bully Buddies!

This basket is all about pampering! A fantastic Satellite Salon Hair Make-Over and so much more!!!

This basket is all about your beloved pooch! Treats, toys, and games galore!

Hat's Off Day Parade

Bully Buddies participated in the Hat's Off Day Parade with Big Dog Little Dog Bakery.  Our newest adoptable Tenessee came out and charmed her way into the hearts of all the people there, with her cute little prance and her willingness to cover all she met in kisses!  And Miss Sadie also came and in true Sadie fashion was a good ambassadog for the bully breeds.  Thanks so much to Big Dog Little Dog Bakery for inviting us out to join in the fun.  And a big thanks go out to Sam, Shayla, Mike and Wendy for heading out and representing Bully Buddies and showing off these fantastic dogs. We had a blast and can't wait to do it again next year!  If you would like to see pictures from the parade, click here.

SPCA OPEN HOUSE

Bully Buddies attended the Vancouver SPCA Open House on May 6th.  The rain didn't dampen our spirits--we had a great time.  Anni and Hubba Bubba --two of our ambassadogs in the making--made an appearance and they worked on their agility skills and some new tricks with Sarah from Rocket Dogs. They wooed everyone who crossed their path with their puppy antics and polite puppy manners! Click here if you'd like to see some pictures from the day.
Thanks for having us out!

Bozwell Got Your Help!

Our St. Paddy's Day fundraiser was a huge success!  A good time was had by all.  Thanks everyone for coming out and showing your support for Bully Buddies.

To date we have raised $2890 through direct donations of Bozwell's care.  This completely covers the costs of both of his leg surgeries!!!!  Donations are no longer needed.  A HUGE thank-you to everyone who helped out.  We never dreamed that we would be able to cover the costs of his surgeries, let alone in just 3 weeks time.

On top of that, the St. Patty's Day fundraiser generated another $1883.50.  We are floored by everyone's generosity.  This will be used to cover the medical needs of Pop-Tart (now Jayda) who needed a blood transfusion and emergency surgery after she almost bled-out from a routine spay, and Peppermint Patty who has a badly healed broken leg that requires surgery.

Update March 17th- Bozwell headed home today!  Thank-you to Pacific Coastal Airlines (http://www.pacific-coastal.com ) for flying him back to his family. Bozwell has been fostered by Jaynee and Tony since he was 6 months old.  They love him and they have become his permanent family.

Here is a letter from them:

We made it home late yesterday and Boz went CRAZY when he seen Tony!!  Boz acted as if he had never been away, when he came into the house he went straight to his toys and then went and got his jacket to go for a walk, he totally remembered our routine, what a smarty! He had a really good day at work with me, remembered that routine as well, and was introduced to some new residence. His hip did very well today but is a bit sore at the moment as he had a play with a choc. lab pup! Hope you had a great day yesterday Sam, will talk soon.

Update March 13th-  Bozwell is doing GREAT!  Tomorrow his stitches come out and later this week he should be heading home!  Check out this link for new pictures of him.

Update March 2nd- Bozwell has just under-gone surgery on his right leg, and is starting to recover well.  While under they x-rayed his head.  He has dents in his skull and a healed broken jaw.  He is an amazingly resilient creature who amazes us all with his good cheer and penchant for life.

Bozwell is scheduled for femur head removal surgery, for his right leg, on March 1st.  He will need the same surgery performed on his left leg about 6 months later.  The estimated costs of these surgeries is over $3000.

Stay tuned as we continue to raise funds to improve Boz's well-being!

A huge thank-you to Trenant Park Pet Clinic for taking on Bozwell's surgical needs, and providing him with such great care!

We couldn't have done this without the help of Dave and Cathy from the Royal City Curling Club.  Not only did they donate the lounge for the party but Cathy donated her wages for the evening to help out the cause--thank-you guys so much for your support!

A huge thank-you to Gail whose donation amazed us all!
