Bully Breed Awareness Day
Sunday, April 26th 2009 1:00 - 3:00 PM
Do you get nervous around pit bulls and other bully related dog breeds? If so, join RAPS for Bully Breed Awareness Day and learn the facts about our hunky, canine friends! According to the American Temperament Test Society, healthy bull breeds consistently rate among the friendlier dog breeds with positive temperament tests of over 85% for the American Pit Bull Terrier and over 90% for the Bull Terrier. (By comparison, the Welsh Corgi and the Chihuahua rated 76% and 71% respectively.) Come learn about all the wonderful ways that bully breeds make excellent canine citizens and great companion dogs. Bully Buddies and Hug-A-Bull rescue groups will provide information and education on the myths and truths of the pit bulls and bully breeds. Please join us for a fun afternoon at the Richmond Animal Shelter!
Our third annual BBQ will be on June 28th. Leash up your bullies and come down to visit us at Robson Park. There will be prizes, games, agilility, lots of bully love to go around. Mark it on your calendars. We'll see you there!

Bully Buddies participated in the Hat's Off Day Parade with Big Dog Little Dog Bakery. Our newest adoptable Tenessee came out and charmed her way into the hearts of all the people there, with her cute little prance and her willingness to cover all she met in kisses! And Miss Sadie also came and in true Sadie fashion was a good ambassadog for the bully breeds. Thanks so much to Big Dog Little Dog Bakery for inviting us out to join in the fun. And a big thanks go out to Sam, Shayla, Mike and Wendy for heading out and representing Bully Buddies and showing off these fantastic dogs. We had a blast and can't wait to do it again next year! If you would like to see pictures from the parade, click here.

Our St. Paddy's Day fundraiser was a huge success! A good time was had by all. Thanks everyone for coming out and showing your support for Bully Buddies.
To date we have raised $2890 through direct donations of Bozwell's care. This completely covers the costs of both of his leg surgeries!!!! Donations are no longer needed. A HUGE thank-you to everyone who helped out. We never dreamed that we would be able to cover the costs of his surgeries, let alone in just 3 weeks time.
On top of that, the St. Patty's Day fundraiser generated another $1883.50. We are floored by everyone's generosity. This will be used to cover the medical needs of Pop-Tart (now Jayda) who needed a blood transfusion and emergency surgery after she almost bled-out from a routine spay, and Peppermint Patty who has a badly healed broken leg that requires surgery.
Update March 17th- Bozwell headed home today! Thank-you to Pacific Coastal Airlines (http://www.pacific-coastal.com ) for flying him back to his family. Bozwell has been fostered by Jaynee and Tony since he was 6 months old. They love him and they have become his permanent family.
Here is a letter from them:
Update March 13th- Bozwell is doing GREAT! Tomorrow his stitches come out and later this week he should be heading home! Check out this link for new pictures of him.
Update March 2nd- Bozwell has just under-gone surgery on his right leg, and is starting to recover well. While under they x-rayed his head. He has dents in his skull and a healed broken jaw. He is an amazingly resilient creature who amazes us all with his good cheer and penchant for life.
Bozwell is scheduled for femur head removal surgery, for his right leg, on March 1st. He will need the same surgery performed on his left leg about 6 months later. The estimated costs of these surgeries is over $3000.
Stay tuned as we continue to raise funds to improve Boz's well-being!
A huge thank-you to Trenant Park Pet Clinic for taking on Bozwell's surgical needs, and providing him with such great care!
We couldn't have done this without the help of Dave and Cathy from the Royal City Curling Club. Not only did they donate the lounge for the party but Cathy donated her wages for the evening to help out the cause--thank-you guys so much for your support!
A huge thank-you to Gail whose donation amazed us all!
