Happy Tails
In a time when bully breeds are continually discriminated against, nothing is more wonderful than seeing a homeless dog find their people.

Michelle and Ryan have waited so long to bring this girl home. They originally applied for a pup from Martini's litter but she already had a hopeful home. When they contacted us again about one of Merry's pups we were thrilled as we knew they would make great puppy parents. As they were the first to apply, they had their pick of the litter. Little Miss Ivy worked her charm because they knew right then and there that this was the girl for them. As she was still a little young to be split up from her litter-mates, Michelle and Ryan had a few more puppy-free weeks to go. A big thanks to Maggie for fostering this entire litter so they had a safe and warm home for the holidays and CONGRATULATIONS to Michelle and Ryan. We can assure you, Miss Kaida was well worth the wait.
Gingerbread and his siblings came into our care early December--just wee little muffins who were very sick and very grateful to be in a foster home for the holidays. Gingerbread stood out because not only was he the biggest male with a tan coat, but also he was oh-so sweet and just wanted love all the time! He moved into foster care and within 3 days, his foster mom's sister Louise was totally smitten and just couldn't handle the thought of this boy moving into a new home! He was promptly adopted and is now known as Harley.
Harley is already signed up for his puppy kindergarten with Rocketdog Training where he'll get to hang out with one of his siblings! Thanks to Maggie for taking such good care of this litter in their time of need, to Allison for fostering him and to Louise and Andrew for giving this boy all the cuddles he deserves.
You know sometimes when things just happen for a reason? And you can't explain it but you just know it was meant to be. Such was the case with Cupid and his new family. Cupid's new mom Allison was a good friend of one of our Bully Buddies volunteers--the volunteer who just happened to be helping these pups find their way into foster and adoptive homes. When she offered to foster one of the pups we were thrilled! You see, Allison is a certified dog trainer with Rocketdog who volunteer and train for our Behaviour for Bullies classes. We knew that under Allison's wings, this puppy was going to get exposure to tons of people, dogs, training you name it. However, we quickly realized that we were never getting this dog back--and did we care--NO!! Marlo has got it made and we can't wait to see him grow up to be the best ambassa-bully out there. If you want to see Marlo on his many adventures check it out--he's got his very own blog: http://brindleshavemorefun.blogspot.com/. A big thanks to Maggie who took this whole litter in over the holidays and congratulations to Allison, Timo and Becky on your much anticipated arrival. And in honour of Leonard who would have made a great big brother.

Butters is definately no Pit Bull- he is way too serious! He needed a patient and understanding home that would love him for all he is, and understand that sometimes he plays the grouch. He found that home with Lisa, who adores him and loves watching him settle in to her home. He also gets to go for romps at Grandma's house, and play with her adopted dog (see picture below). Life is pretty grand for this little man.

Here is an update from his new mom:
Just wanted to let you know things are going great!!! I love him to death, we make a perfect match!!!! We have so much fun together!
He shows me a little more about himself everyday…. I sure see the puppy in him now, I am glad he’s acting like himself more and more each day J
He’s still not sure when I have company over, but that doesn’t last long, I find when I play ball with him around company he forgets to act all big!

As soon as we saw Christianne and Michael's application we knew that whomever they adopted would be oh so lucky. Their 15 year old Pit Bull girl had recently passed away and they were looking for a loving, well-behaved Pit Bull to join their household. Enter Charlie- he came in as a stray to the Delta Humane Society, and everyone was amazed that he was not quickly claimed. Very well-behaved and oh so affectionate, everyone who met him raved about what the perfect breed ambassadog he was. His only fault that we could find was that he sometimes gets car sick- not much of a fault! Despite his awesome temperament we all thought it might take him a bit of time to find a home since middle-aged, brindle Pit Bulls do not always catch the eye of potential adopters. %20(3).jpg)
Luckily he quickly caught the attention of Christianne and Michael, and 1 year old Pit Bull girl Coco, whom he adores. He didn't even get car sick when he made his way to their home in Victoria. They report that he is already making friends all around the neighborhood and showing off his awesome ambassadog skills.

Amy's new mom was supposed to be fostering her temporarily. We're not sure whether this little fireball worked her charm, or whether her new mom excels at failing fostering 101- perhaps a bit of both. Molly and her family are wonderful folks who occasionally foster lucky dogs. A couple of years ago they fostered Lily, a sweet little American Bulldog x Pit Bull pup, and she never left. Unfortunately Lily's backyard-bred background caught up with her far too young. She succumbed to cancer when still a teenager. Time had since passed, and when Amy's foster mom Raylee asked Molly to foster Amy on a temporary basis, we all hoped that maybe Amy would never leave. Amy was the last of her sibling looking for a home, and the total spitfire of the group. Molly likes her dogs sweet, smart, and a tad bratty- it must be the red-head in her! Congrats Molly and family for taking on this little dare-devil, we have no doubt that she will prove herself to be as wonderful a breed ambassadog as Lily was, for she has the best home she could ever hope for!
Karma was originally rescued by a big hearted 18 year old who couldn't stand by and watch Karma being abused. However she eventually realized that she wasn't quite ready for that much Karma in her life, and through circumstances ended up with Jenn, Al and their crew of baby plus dogs. Karma squeezed herself right in, and started brushing up on her manners at weekly Behaviour for Bullies classes.
Being her cute self she received quite a few applications. Soon she found herself being courted by Sara who had recently lost her dog, adn was looking for an active pooch who was good with cats and dogs. Karma fit the bill and is now living the good life near the beaches of Downtown Vancouver.
Soon after adoptin her Sara sent this message and we were all thrilled!
"I am completely in love, it is not just an infatuation. I'm quite
certain the feeling is mutual too!"
Thank-you to Angel for originally rescuing her, Jenn and Al for taking her in, and Sara for seeing what a great dog Karma is!

Oh so pretty Savannah came to us from a Northern BC shelter with huge cheer and a love for life. Exactly the kind of typical Pit Bull personality that makes us all love this breed! Her wonderful foster parents- Jo-Anne, Steve, their son Dyllan- did a fantastic job brushing up on her house manners and giving her the consistency she needed to settle in. When Jason and Cassie applied to adopt her we were all excited for Savannah. With a love for the breed, male Pit mix to keep her busy, and a nice yard to romp around in, they sounded like exactly the kind of home Savannah had been waiting for! Thank-you to her foster parents for taking wonderful care of her, and Jason, Cassie and Bingo for choosing her!
Mitchell, the not quite a Pit Bull, has a new name (Booker!) along with a new home! He had a huge Bully Buddies fan club. With his wiggling charm, and ever hopeful persona, he left many of us swooning. Even being bumped around a few foster homes did not phase this easy-going fella- he thought all the new adventures were great! We were all suprised that it took him so long to find his home, but good things come to those who wait! He has been adopted by Matt and Kathy, a great, dog-experienced couple who first fell in love with Rottie x not so Pit Bull, etc. mixes when their daughter adopted an equally handsome bloke. Better yet their daughter is now volunteering with us at our training classes! Thank-you to all who fostered him, and Matt and Kathy for falling for him!
Here is an update from his new home:
Mitch is great! He is the happiest boy in town! He has settled right into our home and onto our couch. He loves "booking it" around the backyard - so much so that we've changed his name to "Booker". (He didn't seem to be too familiar with the name "Mitch" anyway.) He met alot of our extended family on Thanksgiving and he loved everyone - especially the other dogs.
We went to the Bully Buddy Training on Saturday and it was very helpful. We'll be there again this Saturday.
Keep up the good work! THANKS.
Kathy and Matt

Mojito, now named Deisel, was one of 9 puppies that came into the Maple Ridge SPCA with their mom Martini.
They were fostered together until 8 weeks of age when they started to get split up into different foster homes in order to learn all about the big world, and get them started off on the right foot.
Mojito was one of the most easy-going pups in the litter yet we watched his siblings getting scooped up while he chilled out and had fun with his fantastic foster folks Natasha and Dan.
Their two dogs taught him all about good manners and creature comforts. Sporting some lovely manners, we were thrilled when a great application came in for him. Here is a "first night" update from his new parents Nikita and Eric:

Mimosa had the most applications of the whole litter, and of course got adopted first. Julie and Tara were looking for the right dog to add to their life, and fell in love with Mimosa over the internet. Last we heard they are still working on finding the right name for her- no doubt she will have a million nicknames. Mimosa gets to go to work with Julie, and soon will be attending our Behaviour for Bullies and puppy socialization classes. We can't wait to watch her grow up!

Nothing is more wonderful than when alumni come back to adopt another dog- especially when that alumni is Charlie Brown aka Grinder! Mangey, and not always that healthy, what Grinder lacks in the health department he definitely makes up for in charisma (aka he is the energizer bunny). We can only imagine how thrilled he must be to have a new little sister to harass and romp about with.
So when his folks, Jane and Greg, emailed us about Martini's litter we were thrilled. After her kennel cough cleared up, Colada headed off for Island living at a home that treats the dogs like royalty. Thank-you to Tami and Rhegan for fostering her, and to Grinder for nagging your family to bring home another pooch!

Like many great Pit Bulls Boss had a hard start to life, yet remained the very picture of loving and sweet, exactly what we expect of Pit Bull temperaments. Low-key in the house, and truthfully not much more energetic out and about, he quickly proved himself to be an easy-keeper and great first-timer Pit Bull. So we matched him up with first time foster parent Mike, who in turn matched him up with his good friend's family who are first-time Pit Bull adopter. At first they were unsure of the breed, but the Patrick family were soon loving Boss and the rest is history. Congratulations to all of you on this happy union!

Many of our volunteers are former Delta SPCA/Delta Humane Society employees. So when we got an application from a family who had adopted a dog from there, we were all thrilled as we know that this shelter screens homes well, and most of all were all wondering who this dog named "Sadie" was. Well we knew Sadie as the infamous "Mercedes" a gem of a Pit Bull who was scooped up fast by her folks. Adopting to this family was easy, as they were well-versed in Pit Bulls and dog-handling. Soon enough the stork dropped off Caesar on their door-step, and we can't wait to see him grow up. Thank-you to the Nelson family for being such stellar ambassadors for the breed, and for choosing Caesar to follow in Sadie's ambassadog footsteps!

Kami now Clementine has relocated to Port Alberni, BC. She has a great new mom who sent us this update!
Hello! I wanted to send off a quick update and a heartfelt
thankyou.... Clementine ( nee, Kamikaze ) is an absolute joy, and I am
madly in love! We are still in the early stages of getting a routine
together, it is so hard not to let her get away with everything! so
cute, she makes being bad look adorable! We are starting puppy
training next week.
She is SO SMART, and is doing great with housebreaking and can "sit".
Kenneling for the first time when I got back at work yesterday
afternoon was harder on me than on her.... I am scheming ways I can be
a stay at home mom....have bought lots of lottery tickets... When
she's tearing around the house and picking on the cat, I call her
ClemenSTEIN, when she tries to chew the furniture, I call her
CreditLine. She's the best. The very, very, best. Thanks Bully
buddies! Deb & Clem.

Failed fosters are all too common at Bully Buddies! This guy was in his foster home for less than 24 hours when we got the email asking if it was okay if he never left! JD will be learning all about the world with his big bully sister who is sure to teach him the ropes and where all the prime sleeping spots in the house are! Thank-you Mike for not letting this stellar little guy slip through your fingers. We can't wait to see you at the Behaviour for Bullies classes.

Zena is loving her new home--what's not to love? A comfy bed, a new best friend, and trips to the beach--she even met up with Daisy another Bully Buddies alumni! Here is an update from her new mom:

Things are going super!! We
are getting awesome exercise, walking to the beach every other day or to the
park for a run and social gathering! Zena is meeting lots of dogs, and pays
special attention to the boys,... thats my girl! haha
Actually, oddly enough, we met Daisy and her mom at the beach(one of the
pics), so our girls had a great play and swim together, maybe Zena wouldn't
agree- as Daisy more or less used her as a personal floatation device! They
even played tug of war with a stick, and holy god does this dog ever love
chewing logs. Last night at the beach she grew a beard of saliva mowing down
on driftwood.
My cat is slowly but surely adjusting, they both sleep on the bed with me,
and even eat treats together, Zena is very well behaved!
unfortunatly her politeness stops there, she toots and snores like a full
grown man!! Its hilarious!
From the first day i brought her home i started getting the looks and
remarks, i cant believe what some ppl say and do, but we shrug it off, and
to those who want to listen, we prove the pitbull stereotype wrong, and its
easy to forget the bad remarks when u hear all of the good ones, mostly
saying how beautiful she is! and we agree!!!
Here are some pics, i will send a family photo soon with me and my kids!!
(cat & dog!)
u guys are the best, but u still cant have her back!!
Kinsley, Zena & Reginald
Miss Etta James how we adore you! When this girl first came into our foster care, all of the volunteers were instantly captivated by her charming ways. The best part about it is when you talked to her, she talked right back! Etta quickly made herself at home in foster care, so much so that her foster aunty decided she just could not part with her. We can all see that Etta only has eyes for her new mom Jill and we are thrilled!
Thanks to Tami for fostering her and Jill for falling for this sweet girl!

We are all thrilled to announce that Peanut is now in a foster to adopt home. We've known Peanut for almost two years when he was brought to BC after Hurricane Katrina. He had a pretty rough life and due to an infection had to have one of his eyes removed. All who met him fell instantly in love with his calm laid-back demeanor. It took way too long for this boy to find it but boy was it ever a perfect match! Thank you Laurie giving this boy the love and comfort that he so deserved.
Here is an update from his new home:
Just an update for you on my handsome new boy.
He seems to be quite content here. He has met 3 dogs in the building and has liked all of them especially a 10 month old pit bull female named Roxie. On our walks he is a true gentleman. He approaches everyone one with a wagging tail and a gentle nudge for a pat. I have to say he is quite the star in the neighbourhood. As for barking dogs, he certainly looks around to find out where the noise is coming from but he's pretty easy to redirect for the most part.
His appetite is slowly improving..thank goodness. A bit of chicken stock goes a long way in making his kibble tasty. I found that turkey pepperoni is his favorite snack. I use it for his "good boy" treats.
We went to see Lisa (the trainer). Peanut was very good....me, I need some work. Isn't that always the way? The people need more training than the animals usually.
Peanut does very well at home while I'm at work. I have stopped by to take him for a pee break which his bladder appreciates I'm sure. Before I go I hide pieces of pepperoni around the condo and Peanut is way too busy sniffing them out to notice me gone. Sadly he won't dig them out of his Kong toy.
Peanut (yep he seems to respond to that name so it stays) is a wonderful guy! I am so lucky to have him in my life.
I'll keep you posted....
All the best,
Laurie
PS He likes having a bath...even lets me wash between his toes.
Miss Georgia Peach's journey is coming to an end. She came from the Prince George SPCA to the Quesnel SPCA to a foster home in the Lower Mainland before she headed off to her new home in the Interior. Her new home will be blessed by constant bully kisses and cuddles!Emily is a goofy girl who loves to greet all she meets with a talkative bark and a wag of her tail.
She is so mellow and calm in the house and just needed a place to call her own! She is so great with kids and her new best friend in her home is 2 year old human brother Darien. They absolutely adore eachother and share all sorts of things like food, toys, cuddles and zoomies!
